Three Hamilton-area sites are being eyed for new GO train stations if the service's expansion to Niagara ever hits the rails.
GO Transit, after a public information meeting in January on the proposed expansion, is recommending new stations on the CN line at James Street North, Fruitland Road and Fifty Road. The latter site was being pushed by Councillor Dave Mitchell.
James Street would become the terminus of all-day service -- 20 trains a day -- that now runs between Aldershot and Union Station in Toronto.
GO is also recommending establishing stations at Casablanca Boulevard in Grimsby, Ontario Street in Lincoln and the St. Catharines Via station.
Reguarding the GO Station. It would be wise move having a train go to Niagara Falls from Stoney Creek or Grimsby. The elederly could take more trips and it would be great for commuting to jobs if you can find one. Also we may get more visitors rom there to here. I think a station at Casablana Road in Grimsby is a great idea.

But Tom, new jobs in the community will not be of any benefit or value to those that don't want to work and just rely on 'the system'.
Sure, it will help the go-getters but not the give-me-everything-for-nothings.

More tax revenue means more government waste and scandal. Higher house prices means more poverty and a widening of classes. It shouldn't end up like that but we're run by cronies and pathalogical liars.

Isn't it unfortunate that we lost our heritage train station to a conglomerate through Sheila Copps? Right on James St North, already in use, parking lot available. It would be great to have it back with the Pan Am Games and prospective Football stadium. That would bring in the fans from out of town. They could walk over and we would have less traffic congestion.

Michelle...Due to an new influx of people looking to live in Hamilton property values will go up, there will be more new homes and condos built creating construction jobs and increasing the tax revenue to the city. That is very good for the community.

So, according to Robbie, the price of housing will sore, so where does that leave those that struggle, considering the the amount of affordable housing stock in the city is decreasing, no public input on this decision.
Property values vs what is good for the community is the weighing factor, right.
Who cares about those who struggle, right.

I live in Arizona in the US so this won't affect me at all.

Once this happens, housing prices in Hamilton will sky-rocket. There will be a mass exodus of folks from Toronto looking for affordable housing.

Steve, they have to do something with all our tax money. You expect them to put it to good use?
Posted by: Peter Michael | May 13, 2010 at 01:35 PM
@Old Fart: They're still going to use the TH&B station for the four morning and evening trains; it's just all-day service that's being operated to James St.

High taxes and a debt load but the spending just keeps on chugging.

Sounds great but will anybody use the all-day service or will it just disappear after a few months due to lack of ridership?

After all the taxpayers' money they spent on the T H & B station just a few years back..............
