Canada is pledging $32 million to help flood victims in Pakistan, but some believe that amount is too low, and argue it is based on perceived corruption in Pakistan, and the continuing presence of terrorist activities. Others say those factors should not detract from humanitarian efforts. What do you think?
hmmmmm, sending aid to people who danced in the streets after 911 . count me out .

Haiti got money because our governor general whimpered and whined like a baby, I wonder if she would've donated some of the millions she chewed up in expences, I doubt it.
Governments who build weapons with little or no regard for security and then spit on their own people get squat from me. Alot of these weapons end up killing our kids, they have no class with their own kids, look how many times they're left to drown or bake.
Good thing I'm not the boss, I would've sent a damp sponge.

This may be a downer of a comment, but I am sick and tired of Canada providing relief to countries which spend billions on a nuclear weapons program and ignore their own citizens and then when disaster strikes the Western World is expected to pick up the slack for aid.
Name one country who sent direct aid to the U.S. during Hurricane Katrina or this current BP disaster. Fair is fair. Why did Saudi Arabia not offer aid after the trillions in profit it has extorted from the western world, or the Middle East in general?
It just appears that the rest of the world has a take-take attitude on the western world.
If aid goes directly to the needed end then I can agree but don't be surprised if the money donated in sympathy further enhances Pakistan's nuclear program while its government ignores the plight of its own citizens.
While my rant is still burning, let us consider this $50,000.00 per month per boat person in Vancouver be deducted from our Foreign Aid budget, and don't be surprised if some of the arrivals end up in Collins Bay prison as did their predecessors.
Don't tell Al Quaeda about this short cut past body scanners and passports or we will have hundreds of boats arriving soon.
I am sick of Foreign Aid to build dictators military programmes and financially compensating other countries for their personal neglect of Human Rights.

It does seem unfair that Pakistan will not receive aid commensurate to that received in Haiti. I believe it is directly related to the fact that it is difficult to monitor where and to whom the aid will benefit. Terrorism and infighting is rife in that part of the world . I would be reluctant to donate unless I was certain my aid would benefit the victims of this catastrophe. Perhaps the Red Cross and other agencies will give us more direction soon.

I believe that we should be donating. BUT, AND I DO MEAN BUT!. Not if the money is going to the government of pakistan and not being distributed by the organizations themselves.
OR
If it is anything like Haiti, when CNN reported that money being donated bought food and supplies. being kept in warehouses 6 times the size of ivor wynn and wasnt being distributed to anyone.
I believe we need to help, regardless of the war. While we in Canada refuse to help because of the war. Our men and women are over there helping and doing their best. Our donations can help buy supplies that can go to help people so I
our troops can continue doing their gracious effor.
