Re: Where are the Women?
“Hamilton’s women make up half the city’s population, work in high-profile positions, and like male community members, and are affected by every decision city council makes. So why are so few of them running for municipal office.” October 6, 2010
This is not a very big issue. By saying things like this, it creates discrimination between men and women. A Man and a woman contribute equally to make a family. Instead of emphasizing on women or men individually, why not work towards bringing and promoting individuals who are actually capable? This would reduce discrimination. As Canada is a democratic country and individuals have the right to choose whatever career they like, women who choose to be in politics, go for politics and this is not because there is majority of men in politics. I don't think anyone can stop an individual to go for any career or occupation if he or she desires and is capable. We have many examples in front of us. I would suggest to those who think that women are being ignored, should think about the nation and our future generation. 14 women out of 86 candidates are running for the municipal election. It means from one family 72 men and 14 women are participating for the social, economic, political, cultural, ethnic, moral and educational development of Hamilton and to make their home safe and prosperous. Hamilton is our home and it is the responsibility of all of us to create awareness among the communities to make Hamilton best place to raise our future generation and concentrate on positive development nor create vacuum amongst men and women.

If you are edging up to a New Quota System, it won't work.

True democracy if that is a realistic way of stating it, will not reach its fullest potential until full representation from both genders is voice represented in our communities.
Mandating women is not the answer. Free will, intelligent women, timing, and the fact, its time for half the men to retire, from politics..I am ready for this change.

women can and are as greedy and manipulative as men.

Two Councillors per Ward (like before amalgamation),
the 2nd Councillor to be wo-mandated to be female.

Realistic

isn't it a choice to run? Why is it assumed there is somehting wrong? If sex doesn't matter then why do you analyse it by sex? If there was a rule that made it tougher for women to run then that would be a problem but the rules are the same for both sexes.
